![]() ![]() Nioh 2 set bonuses seem to return but in the form of affinity bonuses, which feels much more elegant in terms of you can reasonably start benefitting from affinity bonuses sooner. As a result you can mix and match these sorts of attributes in all sorts of ways. 30-something jobs, each with a skill tree (and postgame it seems like you unlock 2 more skill trees per job?), every job has a different core ability and different passives, but beyond that it's all extremely fluid because your combo customization is keyed off of weapon types. Best part is you keep all the party bander and dialogue regardless. And in this sort of approach, having to engage with the mechanics a bit more, and explore more of the options the game keeps throwing at you, I feel like my opinion has been revised from "SoP is a good game" to "hey while it's not Nioh 2, it's pretty damn close". So this time I figured I'd do solo with only melee classes, doing only the main missions, with no additional grinding (beyond the exp I'd get for killing boss first phases a few times), and using a new combo of jobs and weapons for each mission, making a beeline for the expert jobs. It was a lot of fun, and an easy recommend to action game fans, but beyond that it was just a good action game. When I first played through the game last year I made liberal use of party members, resonances, and magic, and as a result ended up sort of just mashing through a lot of encounters and not really learning all the boss mechanics or engaging with them. I've been sort of bedridden and very ill the last few days with a fever, so naturally I figure, the thing to do is play the game that most accurately feels like a Final Fantasy fever dream. ![]()
